Hello Corona fans,

I have the Android version of my Corona-built app on the Google Play store now (Woo Hoo!) and I’d like to start the process/adventure of creating the iPhone version now.

I’m hoping there are some Mac mavens that can help me answer a question about the Mac/iPhone environment. I’m new to the Mac world, and I’d like to make a low cost build/test environment, but not so cheap that it won’t work for all the more sophisticated iPhone users out there.

So the basic question is: can I get by with

  1. An iPhone SE
  2. an old MacBook - A1342 2009 - Core 2 Duo 2.26GHz 2GB RAM 250GB HDD - MC207LL/A

So the Mac requirements are not very high as far as what Corona needs. The biggest requirement is you need to be able to run the latest version of Xcode. Generally that only works on the current version of macOS and two versions back. Currently, macOS is at 10.14. My wife's MacBook Pro is a mid-2010 and she cannot update to 10.14, but can 10.13. 10.13 should be able to run the latest Xcode, so I'm thinking you might be able to get back to a 2009. But going back that old is a bit short sited, because you're building in your own obsolescence.

I'd look at something no older than a 2012. Many people also look for Mac Mini's for their Mac use.
