Given Apple's decision to deprecate OpenGL, as well as Google's more recent decision to require 64-bit versions of all apps submitted to Google Play, I went to have a look at Corona's roadmap, but I learned that the roadmap hasn't been updated for 2019 yet.

Any idea as to when it might be updated?

Iirc, Google require 64 bit for native applications. I don't think Corona apps fall into that category.

Yes, I'm also waiting for Corona's announcement to keep abreast with Apple's decision.

Corona produces native apps. Non-native apps are those that are like HTML based apps.

Our big project right now is re-engineering our Android build process which will include the 64bit support.

That's great and I have no worries about that. But, is there also a chance to have a revised roadmap for 2019?

We are discussing that. We've got quite a bit on our plate with the Android updates, trying to get HTML5 out of beta, working on Linux things (which will probably remain a lower priority), keeping up to date with Apple and Google requirements, keeping plugins up to date, and forward-looking to the new Apple GL requirements etc.

Any plans to do some marketing? I was at Global Game Jam last weekend and not one person I talked to had heard of Corona, from hobbyists to Technical Directors.

Be one of the title sponsors for GGJ and you get the brand in front of 47,000 developers, who are willing to sleep on the floor for a weekend to make games.

@Nick,

Good post, and I've been thinking about this for a while as well.  It is sad and somewhat concerning that Corona has a solid head start on other game engines (especially in the monetization area), but it's never mentioned. I usually do Ludum Dare instead of Global Game Jam, but looking at the GGJ site, there was a list of engines used, and Corona was absent.  Matter of fact, looking at these very forums (and the subreddit), and it's been very quiet lately.

My previous suggestions (when a thread like this pop up)... sponsor a game jam, sponsor MeetUps, attend smaller game and indie devs (East Coast Game Conference is a perfect example).  Godot is having a GodotCon... remember the CoronaCon that never took place?

I've been here since 2012, and I love the product.  (I remember the annual $349 Pro license, and didn't mind it (but $200.00 for Admob, hrmm  ).  I am currently working on converting a game I developed in Unity to Corona (and will write an article on it in the future).  I feel like I am starting to climb my soapbox, so I will end this message here without adding my opinions on a few other items.

Cheers!

Hi Corona Team,

I really would like to hear from you in regards to roadmap of 2019. As Rob mentioned earlier that i do know you have some urgent things to complete in your plate but it is obvious that much of the things that you are dealing with belongs to 2018 roadmap. :(

A friend of mine has attended GGJ, team of his developed a 2D game with Unity. He is also aware of my interest in mobile development. The first thing he asked me why i don't use Unity for development platform and did really know what Corona is.

Above all, he says that, at least 90% of teams were using Unity as if they agreed on using Unity.

Corona is a great platform, easy to use, and definitely needs to heads up to the market and reach much greater audience.

By the way, i really appreciate if you could acknowledge us on roadmap 2019 anytime soon.

Regards,

Seha

I understand a desire to have a formal roadmap, but we may pull something together, but for now, what I provide is the list above.
