Hi folks.

I'm in the middle of changing the way I make game starters, tools, and templates.

As you may know, I have a number of templates and such here on the site as well as on Sellfy.com:

To date, you have had to look at screenshots, videos, and such, then trust that it is what you need before buying.

From now on, I plan to make all NEW content as a 'try before you buy' downloadable pack.

My first two new templates/starters that follow this form are:

Word Snap (Starter)

Word Search (Starter)

You can literally download these, try them, modify the examples, make new puzzles, etc.  Then, if you like them, go here to buy the full source code versions:

I'll be putting these up on the market place when I get done with the online docs.

Extras
While the focus of these packages is the game mechanic they are implementing, each of the kits comes with these extras (as yet undocumented):

  • Button Generator and Maker Code
  • Basic Sound Manager
  • Utilities Module
  • ... more later.

UPDATE: Sorry folks but I'm killing this effort.  I experimented with this to see if it would revive at least some template sales, but alas it has failed.  So, while I'd love to make more try-before-you-buy templates, I can't justify it financially.

I will continue to sell and support the templates I have, but for now I'm putting all further new template development on hold.

If you have any interest in this idea at all, but you think I'm going in the wrong direction for starter ideas let me know.

I started by making puzzle games because it fit several other needs I had at the moment, but if there is interest I can easily be convinced to make any kind of starter, including:

  • platformers
  • shooters
  • quiz games
  • business catalogs (weird I know, but I have one ready to go)
  • foreign language quiz/flash card games (again I have this pretty much ready)
  • games that use Tiled as the editor (be specific if you ask for this)
  • RPGs - Define what this means to you by listing examples if you ask for it.
  • more... I love games and know how to make many kinds.

For now, I have two new games I think would be popular as starters.  Let me know if I'm right or wrong.

The 'Starters Core' kit is now available to add more features to your existing games and/or to these kits.

These kits now integrates the 'starters core'.  You don't have to buy it as a standalone product.

I am interested for the weird one:) the business catalogs. I wonder what you cooked with that. Do you have pdf reader for ios and android, can say a client upload a new catalog, etc?

@Odisej,

Hello and thank you for posting your questions.

1. I DO NOT have any PDF readers.

2. I DO have a have a single prototyped business catalog that might be a starting point for an app depending on what you need, but you would need to integrate the data for your client.

3. Alternately,  Jason Schroeder recently introduced me to https://airtable.com and I have to say.  This is perfect for creating a business catalog with the added benefit that you can make it possible for your client(s) to edit the catalog data on their own.

4. I will update this post in a moment, but I have decided to kill the try-before-you-buy effort.  I have only seen a few sales and a few requests.  I can't make even part of a sustaining income out of the effort so it has to go.

That said  I still contract by the hour and I might be able to code you a 'base catalog' using airtable that you can later modify for your clients.  If this sounds interesting, you can contact me at:

@roaminggamer Hey Ed, sorry to hear that you are pausing this effort but it is totally understandable.  You know I'm a fan of your templates and will buy them all but sometimes you gotta go with the numbers.
