Hi there everyone!

I just wanted to share some of the artwork for the game I've been working on for the past year and a half - to keep myself motivated, mostly. It's called "Stranded", and it is a pretty big endeavour, because it is a platform game with built in level editor and lots of, lots of, LOTS OF work to do ;)

Well, either way, here's some art elements that I'm having fun making!

Ah, and some very, very early background artwork. From when I only had a some rock elements to play with! These background are constructed fully on the iPad itself using the built in level-editor for the game.

Interesting looking art!  Looks like it could be a good looking game.

Thanks Rob! Mind you: that pink rectangle is just a placeholder for the hero character! ;)

This looks really nice! Looking forward to try this. Artwork looks like 3D objects. How do you use them in the game?

Thanks Christian, they are indeed 3D objects, modeled and rendered in Lightwave 3D. In game they are just 2D sprites that I use at different scales to make up the whole background - I'll be needing some beta-testers for the level design, so I'll make sure to contact you when the time comes, if you'd like to play around a bit and let me know how you like it (or dislike it ;-)

The only problem is that I still need to model and render about 40 background elements, and each takes me about a day. Since it's only a hobby of mine I wonder if I'll ever finish the game. Frustrating because actually the game engine is fully complete and working, and the level editor is also 100% operational; I just need the time to design now!!!

As a thought, I wonder if you would want to create some simpler placeholder graphics that still look nice enough but aren't what you envision for the final version.  Doing so would allow you to do a beta test before you've put in all of that extra work.  The benefits would be that you could get some feedback on gameplay and address any issues that might come up.  It could also be really inspiring knowing that people are playing you game in some form.

Hi Allen,

Thanks for the input! That's actually already what I'm doing at the moment  The thing is, to make sure I can re-use my placeholder graphics game-design, I need to make sure I know how big items are, and where the reference point is, and that basically boils down to modeling and rendering the stuff anyhow, but not spending as much time on lighting and colour grading as I'd like to. So that still takes me a LOT of time to do, and sometimes I get to the point where I wonder if it's not faster to do it right the first time round, than to revisit everything after I've forgotten the specifics of some graphics...

I'm afraid it's just not a very realistic one-man-job  !

Love the artwork! Looks kickass, kinda like Tim Biskup's more recent style.

Hey Jared,

Nope, no folio website. No time to do so either, since this is a hobby project! My day job is working at a design studio that I co-founded, and we do have a site here: http://www.pinkeye.be

Thanks guys! I'll make sure to keep you up to date on new artwork - and I just re-rendered that polar bear at super-high resolution to make some prints and a wallpaper, which I'll be sharing here (as soon as I find the time to do the Photoshop work). Thanks again!!!
