Hi, I'm a new user coming from the flash world.
I have a few apps in mind that I want to start prototyping but I'm not sure if some features are possible.

The main app I would like to build is an app which can send information back and forth between a computer on the same wifi network.
Similar to AirMouse for the iPhone (but simpler) or the remote app on the iPhone.

Can anyone tell me what I should look up to research creating the server program for a computer. I'm a bit lost for where to start with this side of it.

And also, if I can get that set up, will Corona be able to connect to it, and how?
(It's not a game, so the connection doesn't need to be super fast)

Thanks in advance,

Look at the LuaSockets Library and http://developer.anscamobile.com/content/network

I don't know how to use it myself, but I know that is what you'd use.

There is no local network discover at the moment, Corona cant even get its local network ip address.

You would need to enter ip address manually.

This has some code http://developer.anscamobile.com/forum/2010/10/20/incoming-socket-tcp-communication

Its not that hard to get communication, discovery is however.
